On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, and Professor Anwar Hossain, Faculty of Biological Sciences, visited Ehime University and held a meeting with President Nishina Hiroshige, Vice President Mitsunobu Kazuhiro, Professor Watanabe Kozo and Associate Professor Tanoue Rumi of Center for Marine Environmental Studies (CMES).
The University of Dhaka is a leading university in Bangladesh, and CMES of Ehime University has concluded a faculty-level Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Dhaka. Since 2021, these two universities have been actively engaged in collaborative research and student-faculty exchanges. At the beginning of the meeting, President Nishina Hiroshige welcomed the delegation and expressed his sincere hopes for deepened collaboration. Following this, Vice Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan proposed the establishment of an Ehime University Overseas Satellite Office within the University of Dhaka, as well as expanding the current faculty-level MoU to a university-level MoU. Professor Watanabe Kozo then provided an overview of the “Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS),” which will be implemented over a five-year period starting in 2026, and shared that a provisional period is currently underway to prepare for the program. The two universities then engaged in an exchange of views on how to further advance their collaboration.
To conclude the meeting, a signing ceremony was held. President Nishina and Vice Chancellor Khan signed the SATREPS agreement and celebrated the occasion with a cordial handshake.
Ehime University is committed to continuing the promotion of mutual exchanges with the University of Dhaka in various fields, including joint research and the acceptance of international students.
