On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Ehime University renewed a MoU for Academic Exchange and an Agreement on Student Exchange with Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. From Sunday, October 26, to Wednesday, October 29, a delegation of 23 members—led by Mr. Kan Noriyuki, Vice Governor of Ehime Prefecture—visited Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province. Eight members from Ehime University, Professor Mitsunobu Kazuhiro, Executive Director and Vice President (Director of the Institute for International Relations [IIR]), and Professor Chen Jie of the IIR, along with four students, participated in the prefectural delegation. This visit coincided with Ehime Prefecture’s commemoration of the 10th anniversary of its friendship and exchange agreement with Shaanxi Province.
Xi’an Jiaotong University, alongside Shanghai Jiao Tong University, is one of the key science and engineering universities directly administered by China’s Ministry of Education under the State Council. It is regarded as the leading university in western China in terms of scale and research excellence. Academic exchange between Xi’an Jiaotong University and Ehime University began following the establishment of the friendship agreement between the Shaanxi Provincial Government and Ehime Prefectural Government. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the conclusion of the MoU in 2015, and this renewal represents the second update.
On October 28, a signing ceremony was held at Xi’an Jiaotong University’s iHarbour Campus. Prior to the ceremony, Professor Shan Wenhua, Special Aide to the President, introduced Xi’an Jiaotong University’s initiatives in human resource development, scientific research, and international cooperation. Four students from Xi’an Jiaotong University also took part in the event and interacted with students from Ehime University. Representing Ehime University, Executive Director and Vice President Mitsunobu delivered a message on behalf of President Nishina Hiroshige, stating, “We aim to further strengthen our collaboration with Xi’an Jiaotong University and build an even more fruitful cooperative relationship in the fields of education, research, and regional contribution.”
Ehime University will continue to engage in student exchange with Xi’an Jiaotong University and, in collaboration with Ehime Prefecture, further promote various exchange activities with the university.
